The MCA Integrity Restoring Taskforce (MIRT) stands by the decision that a fresh poll is the only way to resolve the current party crisis. The public and the media are aware that an agreement has been made among all the leaders of the party that fresh elections be held - a  necessity in order to regain the confidence of the grassroots and to reinstate the credibility of the party in the eyes of the public.

During the briefing held on November 28, 2009 the MIRT called for elections to be held within 60 days. Today, 65 days have passed but the current leadership continues to ignore the calls of the delegates to hold the party elections.

It must also be emphasized that at no time on any occasion did Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai express intentions of holding the party President post. Personal agenda is never the intention of the MIRT.

The agenda of the MIRT is very clear -- it only desires to restore the integrity of the party by abiding to the wishes of the delegates who have expressed their lost in confidence in both Dato Seri Ong Tee Keat and Dato’ Seri Chua Soi Lek during the party EGM held on October 10, 2009.

The two leaders have brought shame to the institution by reneging on their promises, thereby slamming democracy in face.

Over the past several months, we have had to endure false accusations of being “power hungry”, “traitors’ and “trouble makers”. The fact that we have submitted our resignation letters en bloc, is already a sincere gesture that we are willing to stand for fresh elections and risk the outcome of not being re-elected.

The MIRT stays strongly united in its pledge to soldier on with the task of returning democracy to the party delegates. The MIRT stands by its word to ask for fresh polls as this is the wish of the majority.

As a matter of expressed principle, the MIRT will not be attending or participating in any functions or activities organized by the present leadership lacking of intergrity from now on, until such time when they honour their words to hold re-election. It is time for them to brave the delegates. It is time for them to stop hiding behind their unity of convenience.
