Press Statement - by Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai

As a Minister, party leader and as a Malaysian, I am truly disappointed and saddened with the racist remarks uttered by Datuk Nasir Safar yesterday in Melaka. His comments were both malicious and mischievous and deserve the public condemnation it has attracted.

The Chinese and Indians have contributed immensely to the independence of the country and tremendous progress of Malaysia as a whole. I believe the majority of Malaysians accept and cherish these contributions and do not share Nasir’s sentiments.

The history and cultural mosaic of Malaysia is far too celebrated for it to be affected by malicious incidents such as this, but I do hope we do not take our peace and prosperity for granted. Irresponsible statements such as this must cease to exist and we must stay united in our journey towards a just 1 Malaysia.

Stern action should be taken to prevent the reoccurrence of such incident.
