Liow: Malaysia remains steadfast in its unwavering commitment to find answers for MH370

8 March 2018 marks the fourth anniversary of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 incident with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board. The date 8 of March 2014 will always be in our memory. It has undoubtedly been a difficult and trying forty-eight months for the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew Flight MH370.

Four years may have passed, but the memories of the passengers and crew on-board will always be with all of us and they will be remembered dearly not only by the families but also by Malaysians and the world community.

Not a single day passed without us hoping and praying that we can find answers to this tragedy as we owe it to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew on-board MH370. In this regard, the Government of Malaysia is committed towards the search when we engaged Ocean Infinity to search for the aircraft on 10 January 2018 on a “no cure no fee” basis within a 90-day time frame.

The mission involves a total of 65 crew on board including two (2) personnel from the Royal Malaysian Navy as the Government of Malaysia’s representative. To date, the vessel Seabed Constructor has covered more than 16,000 square kilometres within the 25,000 square kilometres most probable area.

In tandem, an Interim Statement will be released by the Malaysian ICAO Annex 13 Safety Investigation Team for MH370, which comprises 19 Accredited Representatives from seven international Air Accident and Incident Investigation Organisations from Australia, China, France, Indonesia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States of America which is led by Malaysia in accordance with ICAO Annex 13.

The Chief Investigator, Dato’ Kok Soo Chon will release the interim statement on 8th March 2018 at 3.00pm (Malaysia time) via a televised broadcast on the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) 1. The statement will also be uploaded to the official MH370 website (, where it will first be made available to the next-of-kin only, and subsequently made public at 3.00pm Malaysian time.

This day is in fact, a very sad day for us. However, during these trying times, we must strengthen our solidarity and unity among ourselves, in memory of this MH370 tragedy. These past four years have been fraught with grief and concern for the families and loved ones of the 239 passengers and crew on board MH370.

Our commitment to the families and to the citizens of Malaysia remains steadfast as we continue to complete the search mission by Ocean Infinity to find the answers that we all seek. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with the families and loved ones of those on board flight MH370.
