A very Merry Christmas to my fellow Malaysians who celebrate this season of giving. As families and friends gather in the spirit of togetherness, let us one and all take this time to cherish our loved ones. As citizens of Malaysia, we are all one great family, bound together by our beloved country’s rich cultural history.

Christmas is a time of forgiveness and renewal, when we reflect on the past and look towards the future. It represents hope and selflessness, values which I am sure responsible Malaysians aspire to in order to build a better nation.

In this vein, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all Malaysians of our Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak’s message on moderation. Regardless of our individual beliefs and ideals, it is important that we all play a part to promote inclusiveness and moderation by preserving freedom of religion and encouraging interfaith dialogue and harmony in our nation.

Furthermore, in support of the recent campaign for moderation which is indeed laudable, I urge all Malaysians to uphold this and to be mindful of extremist views. Moderate policies will ultimately benefit all citizens, regardless of race, religion or culture. Our nation can only continue to develop and rise to greater heights when we do not let our differences stand in the way of mutual trust and respect.

We are truly fortunate to belong to a nation that is a melting pot of cultures. Our forefathers and leaders have worked tirelessly to attain this unity, and on our part, we each need to work hard at preserving this peace and resisting extremism.

During this holiday season, there is bound to be much travel and I would like to urge all Malaysians to be considerate particularly as the volume of motorists on our highways and roads is expected to increase. Do rest if you are feeling tired and I wish everyone a safe journey to your destinations.
